Exploitation, Exploration, or Ambidextrousness—An Analysis of the Necessary Conditions for the Success of Digital Servitisation

The aim of this paper was to investigate the level necessity for one three conditions (organisational capabilities), i.e., exploitation, exploration, and organisational ambidexterity achieve desired business performance in digital servitisation manufacturing enterprises. Servitisation (at present, also combination with Industry 4.0 solutions) is perceived as an important factor competitiveness manufacturers. idea (digital) can be considered terms sustainability. main expectation here that successful will result a lower environmental impact by moving away from traditional model, which manufacturer produces products then transfers responsibility their ownership use customer, towards achieving benefits customers’ (the product remains property manufacturer). Achieving success requires, among other things, appropriate dynamic capabilities, such or combination, ambidexterity. However, it still unclear what extent ambidextrous organisation engages both types activities increase combined exploration exploitation how affects company servitisation. On basis survey sample 167 manufacturers, necessary values were determined. For purpose, non-parametric method used, condition analysis (NCA). results show not, every case, better Organisational ambidextrousness (but not sufficient) dimensions market share, customer retention, sales growth, overall firm performance. competitive position, limiting only, whereas satisfaction, exploitation.
